Mentoring is sometimes a difficult task especially if a mentor is appointed to a coach or coaches.
We understand this can be the case and endeavor to firstly establish rapport with the coach by gaining an understanding of their current role, pressures away from the court, technical understanding and prior training.
We then establish a mode of operation to work with the coach firstly to observe them and then discuss the way they currently operate, in areas such as their personal interaction with individual athletes, their team, they way they conduct training and matches.
The ongoing relationship we have with coaches ensures there is a two way conversation, so they are never feeling like we are their boss, instead we become an educator, conduit to ongoing learning and someone to hear them when they need someone to discuss particular challenges they are facing.
If there is a particular need established by the Head of Sport, Head Coach etc in working with a subordinate, we firstly find out what actions have already taken place and how they might have been established.
Most importantly we never barge in and take over and always act in a professional and confidential way, so all gain from the opportunity to work with our team of mentors.
If you would like to discuss mentoring, we welcome contact with you.
For the most part, our mentoring will work with any sport and our main areas are about the following area
- Coach managing the team at training or matches
- Personal interaction between coach and athlete or team
- Establishing areas where the coach may need education
- Offering advice when it is requested
- Ongoing support
- Planning
We currently work with several schools in Melbourne and have worked with State team coaches and National team coaches. We are happy to supply testimonials to support this.
